NPTEL LOCAL CHAPTER

The main goal of the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is to enhance the quality of education in Engineering, Humanities and Science streams in the country by developing contents for undergraduate and postgraduate students. NPTEL has been offering self-study courses across engineering, humanities and science streams for more than a decade. These are available at: http://nptel.ac.in.

The courses offered by eminent professors of premier institutions like IITs, NITs, IISc, etc are of 4, 8 or 12 weeks duration. These courses cover the syllabi prescribed by universities across the country and approved by AICTE. Course contents are useful for the faculty as well as the students. Faculty members and students can enrol in courses either pertaining to their branch or interdisciplinary. Also, faculty and students are motivated to select courses outside their branch of study to enhance extra knowledge and career prospects. A detailed course schedule along with topics covered is communicated and video lectures along with their transcripts are also uploaded. These courses can also be used by professionals for updating their academic background.

To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across college to participate in the initiative taken by NPTEL, Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology has been established as SWAYAM - NPTEL Local Chapter.

Local Chapter ID (LC ID): 6286 has been allocated to MSIT.

The main aim of this local chapter is to look after the promotion and awareness activities of SWAYAM-NPTEL courses by advertising it on college boards, WhatsApp group, websites etc. Its role is to provide access to SWAYAM courses to all.

From March 2014, NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate by professionals for updating their academic background.

BENEFITS OF NPTEL COURSE CERTIFICATE

Students can go through numerous courses apart from their prescribed syllabus in self learning mode and get access to lectures of IIT/IISc Distinguished Faculty.
Weekly assignments help the students to review, evaluate and assess their own progress and compare against the pool of students national wide

· Live problem solving sessions and interaction with experts will help students solve their doubts and enhance knowledge on a particular topic.

· Students will get certificates that bear the stamp of CCE, IIT and hence are valuable additions when the student is applying for jobs.

Students can also be benefitted in recruitments as companies can also dig into this pool of candidates with specialized skills
On successful completion of advanced NPTEL course by the faculties, AICTE approves as FDP so that they can get the points for the same. This FDP certificate is given full consideration for promotions under CAS as per AICTE notification.
Students can also use the NPTEL programmes for GATE and High Studies preparation
Students also get the benefits of Honours degree as per credit transfer policy after successful completion of the course.[4 Weeks – 1 Credit, 8 Weeks -2 Credit and 12 Weeks – 3 Credit]
