Prof. (Dr.) Avanish Kumar Srivastava served as the Director of Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute (CSIR-AMPRI), Bhopal, and Outstanding Professor of Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) for seven and half year, received his Ph.D. from IISc Bangalore and M.Tech. and M.Sc. (Hons.), respectively, from the IITs in Kanpur and Roorkee (UoR). He also served as the Director (additional charge) of National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML) Jamshedpur for one year. He is the Former President of the Electron Microscope Society of India (EMSI). His area of research specialization encompasses nano-science and technology, mechanisms of nucleation and growth, phase transformations, microstructural engineering, composite systems, and technologies that convert waste into wealth. He has about 460 peer-reviewed research publications in international journals with about 15000 citations, an h-index of 65, i10 - index of 407, holds 34 patents, edited 07 books, delivered about 120 invited lectures in India & abroad, and has transferred 24 technologies/know-how to industries. He has supervised 13 Ph.D. scholars across the disciplines of Engineering Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Chemical Sciences, and has additionally guided around 50 M.Tech./M.Sc. theses and several post-doctoral research projects. He played an active role in the establishment of AcSIR at National Physical Laboratory (CSIR-NPL), New Delhi, and contributed significantly to the development of course curricula in Nanostructured Materials and Advanced Materials Characterization. Some of his outstanding publications are in prestigious high-impact journals like Nature Communications, Nano Letters (highlighted in Science), Acta Materialia, Nano Energy, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Society Reviews, etc. He is instrumental in manufacturing the country's first high-end Make-in-India Raman Spectrometer under public – private – partnership. He received awards such as the Materials Research Society of India - Medal, Metallurgists of the Year, Govt. of India, National Research Development Corporation - societal innovation, and Confederation of Indian Industry - Waste to Worth. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Indian Institute of Metals, and EMSI. He has travelled to about 15 countries as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Guest Researcher/Faculty, Invited Speaker, and Member of Indian delegations. His international academic engagements span esteemed institutions including the University of Paris (France), Technical University Darmstadt & University of Freiburg (Germany), Okayama University of Science and Shinshu University (Japan), POSTECH (South Korea), Department of Energy - Politecnico di Milano (Italy), and Argonne and Brookhaven National Laboratories & University of Arkansas (USA). Across India, he has engaged in collaborative research with several premier institutions, including IISc Bangalore, IITs in Delhi, Kanpur, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, NIT Kurukshetra, DMRL Hyderabad, IACS Kolkata, BARC Mumbai, and BHU Varanasi. He has played a key role in establishing Centres of Excellence in Advanced Materials and Analytical Instrumentation at CSIR laboratories, notably at CSIR-NPL New Delhi and CSIR-AMPRI Bhopal. He has served on multiple national committees as a scientific expert and policy contributor. Since 2021, he has consistently been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists, as recognized by Stanford University. He holds honorary faculty positions at AcSIR, IIT Gandhinagar, and IIT Indore. A distinguished materials scientist, nanotechnologist, and metallurgist, he actively mentors students, early-career researchers & engineers, faculty members, and industry professionals.
